Somehow the Republicans act as if they are the party of change when in fact they have been the power in Washington for the past 28 years. Democrat Bill Clinton did have 8 of those years yet his policies mirrored those of most Republicans as he stayed entrenched in the center-right position.
Today we have Republican Arizona Senator John McCain as the nominee who claims to be the true agent of change. He claims to be the candidate that will turn those in Washington on their ears. He complains about the waste full spending by his own Party yet agreed 90% of the time with it. Backed a war in Iraq despite the fact that the reasons for it have been proven to be false. Agrees to continue the policy of allowing the American taxpayer to pour 100´s of billions of dollars into a nation that is quickly growing a surplus of an estimated 78 billion.
Sen. McCain wants us to believe that he disagrees with his fellow Republicans on social issues yet picks someone that is a social conservative to be his vice president. Uses the same speech writers as President Bush, Has many of the same advisors that have guided others in the Party. However he will not do as they have advised?
Outright admits he lacks economic knowledge yet is certain that the economy will right itself with the same policies as his predecessors. Growing up in a military family he echoes this thought that only war or the threat of war brings about peace. This also brings about the fact that he has never had to worry about the cost of healthcare as a child or as an adult. His Grandfather and father were both Admirals in the U.S. Navy. And he wants us to believe that he is not an elitist.
John McCain was a hero 40 some years ago and did gain respect in the halls of congress by both Democrats and Republicans yet he is playing old time Washington politics. Center right has been the politics of the past quarter century and with McCain it will remain the same. He is leaving his senate seat where he could cross party lines and write the legislation that can change government. This is where he is needed as if he would become President he would move into the Administrative branch of government.
McCain doesn´t have the type of personality too rally the support of the people to his message and ideas. He is too prone to making moves too fast or saying things that are better left unsaid. President Reagan, Kennedy, and FDR had the ability to rally Americans behind an idea therefore gaining their support for policies. All three of these great Presidents understood the true roll of a President was to lead with the support of the people first. Place the right person in the right job and get the results required. All three listened to all sides of an issue then weigh the decision accordingly. None were known to be reactionaries as McCain is.
Beware America McCain is a great American legislator but lacks the requirements needed to lead our nation into real change.
